Auto Insurance in Pennsylvania

• Pennsylvania is a no-fault state, meaning that every driver is required to file a claim to their own insurance company after an accident, and no party is blamed for the collision.  However, compared to other states, customers in the state of Pennsylvania can opt-out of no-fault insurance when they are buying a policy.
• It is not mandatory in Pennsylvania to carry collision or comprehensive coverage.  However, most lenders require it anyway for financing or leasing a car.
• According to the state law, there are minimum limits for auto insurance: bodily injury liability coverage (pays for both medical treatment and damages); property damage liability (pays for damage to the property of other people); and uninsured motorist coverage (covers you if you are struck by an uninsured driver).
